The Waukon volleyball team got its Northeast Iowa Conference (NEIC) season off to a successful start this past week before playing in a weekend tournament in Cresco. The Indian netters swept Decorah in three sets to open both their NEIC and home season Tuesday, September 4 before winning four of six matches to finish third at the annual Kepros Tournament hosted by Crestwood High School in Cresco Saturday, September 8.

The volleyball Indians will now prepare to host their own home tournament this Saturday, September 15, details of which appear in a shaded box elsewhere on these Sports pages. The Tribe netters will then host Oelwein Tuesday, September 18 and will then host New Hampton Monday, September 24 before traveling to Waverly-Shell Rock Tuesday, September 25.

vs. Decorah ...
The volleyball Indians got their home season off to a sweeping start, but that sweep didn’t start off so clean in the net Tribe’s first Northeast Iowa Conference match of the season Tuesday, September 4 against a Decorah team with just a single match win to its credit in its first six matches. Finding themselves in as much as a 6-11 hole early in the first set of the match, the Indians battled their way back to not only win that first set, 25-14, but also to never trail again in the match on the way to completing the sweep by scores of 25-21 and 25-11.

Kepros Tournament ...
The net Tribe made its way to Cresco Saturday, September 8 to compete in the Kepros Tournament hosted by Crestwood High School. The Indians ended up playing six matches at the tournament, winning four of them to make their way to the tournament’s championship pool and ultimately end up third. For her efforts on the day, Waukon senior middle hitter Brigid Berns was the lone Indian and one of eight players in the tournament to be named to the All-Tournament Team.
