Alberta Troendle

Alberta Troendle, 101, of Lansing died Thursday, November 1, 2018 at Thornton Manor, Lansing. Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, November 5 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Lansing with Rev. John Moser as the Celebrant. Burial followed at Gethsemane Cemetery, Lansing.

Alberta was born in rural New Albin March 11, 1917 to George and Elizabeth (Wall) Hammell. After graduation, Alberta completed Finishing School and taught at a local country school until her marriage to Joseph Francis Troendle November 24, 1938 at New Albin. They celebrated 70 years of marriage before Joe’s death in 2009.

Alberta volunteered at many things through the years: 4-H leader (11 years), CCD teacher (11 years), ACCW Officer (13 years), Meals on Wheels (16 years), Sacristan at Immaculate Conception Church (16 years), Preschool Assistant, Share Food Program and Thornton Manor Resident Advocate and Volunteer (22 years).

She also enjoyed sewing, quilting especially. It was also important to her that her children knew how to sew. Alberta enjoyed gardening and has had beautiful flower gardens over the years. She also enjoyed reading and spending time with family and friends. Her favorite pastimes were dancing and playing cards.

Alberta is survived by her children: John (friend, Sandy) Troendle of Waukon, Jerry (Marilyn) Troendle of Waukon, Alice (Jerry) Clemments of Lansing, Betsy (friend, Mike) Shew of Lansing, Ann Delaney of Lansing, Monica (Dave) Monserud of Waterville, George (Susan) Troendle of Waukon, Jim (Patty) Troendle of Woodbury, MN, Mary Ann (Jeff) Kelly of Waterville, Joe (Ronda) Troendle of Kirkville and Lucy (Tom) Hilleshiem of La Crosse, WI; 41 grandchildren; 105 great-grandchildren; 44 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Esther Walleser of Waukon; and two brothers, Larry Hammell of Aurora, CO and James (Ila) Hammell of Caledonia, MN.

Alberta was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joe; a son, Victor; her brothers, George Hammell and Earl Hammell; her sisters, Anna Collins, Sister Georgia Hammell, FSPA and Pauline Blaskowski; her sisters-in-law, Eleanor Hammell, Mary Hammell, Adeline Hammel and Lucille Mauss; her brothers-in-law, Robert Collins, Lawrence Walleser, Ernest Blaskowski, Paul Hammel and Bernard Mauss; two sons-in-law, James Shew and Francis Delaney; a daughter-in-law, Angella Troendle; a granddaughter-in-law, Paula Troendle; and a great-grandson, Mikel Delaney.

The family of Alberta would like to thank the caregivers at Thornton Heights and Thornton Manor for the tremendous care and support during Alberta’s residency.
