David Barry Jackson

David Barry Jackson, 72, of Waukon died April 1, 2019 surrounded by family and devoted caregivers at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. A memorial service is set for 2 p.m. May 13 at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Preston, MN. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon is in charge of  cremation.

Barry was born April 28, 1946 in Muskogee, OK. He was the son of David C. and Dollie (Boatman) Jackson of Eufaula, OK.

Growing up in Oklahoma, he enjoyed hunting, camping and riding bikes and motorcycles. In 1964, he graduated from Eufaula High School, where he excelled as a musician, playing trumpet with the marching and stage bands. He attended Connors State College at Warner, OK.

Barry joined the Oklahoma National Guard while still in high school and retired with the rank of captain. He embraced all aspects of military service.

His professional life was spent in retail lumber management and sales. Though not a member of any religious group, he was a very spiritual person and loved spending time outdoors.

Survivors include his wife, Debbie, of Waukon; his son, David Heath, and daughter-in-law, Denise Jackson, of Rockwall, TX; his granddaughter, Ashley, and grandson, Aiden Jackson, of Rockwall, TX; his sister, Debbie, and brother, Dane Mark Jackson, both of Tulsa, OK; and his step-sisters, Carmita Hedges of Eufaula, OK and Diane Mahaffey of Hugo, OK.

Other survivors include his step-son, Rick Johnson, and his wife, Sarah, of Carthage, MO; his step-daughter, Shawna Miller, and her husband, Joel, of Waukon; his grandchildren, Addison, Austin, Kaimi and Blake Johnson, Shawn Riley, and Morgan, Emily and Cassandra Miller; several great-grandchildren; and his former daughter-in-law, Janese Johnson.

The family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
