Kee softball team opens UIC season by further extending current league win streak, faces three top 15-ranked teams in winless NFV Tournament

The Kee softball team ended up on differing sides of the win-loss spectrum in playing a total of six games on just three different days, picking up its first wins of the season before ending the week on the opposite end of that result in four weekend games, three of them played against teams ranked among the top 15 in their respective classes. The Lady Hawks’ week began with that high note of its first two victories of the season, a sweep of an Upper Iowa Conference (UIC) doubleheader at South Winneshiek Wednesday, May 29 by scores of 9-4 and 7-3 that kept Kee’s UIC winning streak alive and well at now 62 games. The Hawks then traveled to West Union for back-to-back days of softball action at the North Fayette Valley Tournament, where they faced those three highly-regarded foes in falling in all four games they played. The Kee girls fell to Don Bosco, 3-2, were handed a 12-0 loss in four innings by Class 4A fourth-rated Charles City, fell to Class 2A 13th-rated Dyersville Beckman, 10-3, and suffered a 7-1 loss to Class 1A third-rated Clarksville.

Holding a 2-8 season record, 2-0 in Upper Iowa Conference play, the softball Hawks were next scheduled to play a busy early schedule this week, hosting Postville for a varsity doubleheader Monday, June 3 before traveling to Crestwood Tuesday, June 4 and then to Clayton Ridge Wednesday, June 5 for another Upper Iowa Conference double-dip. A lighter schedule for the Lady Hawks the following week will see the Kee girls play just one night of softball, Wednesday, June 12 at Turkey Valley, before playing in the West Delaware Tournament Friday and Saturday, June 14 and 15.
