Waukon High School Drama Department to present “GOOD NEWS!” as this year’s musical on stage November 7, 9 & 10

The Waukon High School Drama Department will present “GOOD NEWS!” as this year’s musical production this Thursday and Saturday, November 7 and 9 at 7 p.m. on the auditorium stage at Waukon High School, and again at 1 p.m. Sunday, November 10, so as not to conflict with the November 8 second-round play-off game for the Waukon football team.

It is only fitting that the production’s schedule be adjusted for the football team as “GOOD NEWS!” is about a college football team in the 1920s. The roaring ‘20s are in full swing on the campus of Tait College. Anticipation builds on the campus as game day nears but the football hero, Tom Marlow (played by Ethan Hooten), must first pass a big Astronomy exam in order to play. When he unexpectedly falls for his tutor, Connie Lane (played by Oonagh Ahouse), romance blooms. With songs like “You’re the Cream in My Coffee,” “Button Up Your Overcoat,” and “Life Is Just a Bowl of Cherries,” this show is fun for everyone.

Holding true to the era, a vivacious flapper, Babe O’Day (Aislinn Goettel), pursues the affections of third-string player Bobby Randall (Ryan VanderVelden) and hopes to get a ride in his car complete with a rumble seat. The cast roster is complete with astronomy teacher Charlotte Kenyon (Mady Helgerson) and Coach Bill Johnson (Denzel Decker) and a campus full of flappers, cheerleaders and football players. The musical packs the stands with big and small dance numbers filled with fun music and a variety of lively dance moves.
