A desire to balance work and home life, in addition to wanting to provide her customers a welcoming and comfortable shopping experience, have resulted in the opening of Driftless Arrow Boutique for owner McKayla Dahlstrom. The boutique is located in Dahlstrom’s home at 21 Fifth Avenue SE in Waukon.

“After being a stay-at-home mom for three years, I was ready to get back to work, except I wasn’t ready to put my kids in daycare,” the former McKayla O’Hare now married to Bryce Dahlstrom, also a Waukon native, said. “I needed to created my own job that worked with our family schedule.”

Opened in January of this year, Driftless Arrow Boutique offers a variety of apparel, jewelry and other accessories in a setting Dahlstrom finds inviting to her customers. “The fact that my boutique is run out of my home makes it a very casual and cozy shopping experience,” she shared.

Dahlstrom said she finds it very rewarding “finding the prettiest things to offer my customers.” She also says, despite her business being in her own home, she feels running her own business also offers its own shared challenges. “I think it’s the same as many other small business owners, finding a healthy balance between work and home life.”

Besides offering that balance she was seeking, Dahlstrom says her decision to open her business in her hometown of Waukon was also based on much more. “This is home,” she explained. “My husband, Bryce, and I were both born and raised in Waukon. We have two boys, Brayden (age four) and Bradley (age 2), and we also recently found out we’re expecting our third baby.”

Much like her family, Dahlstrom also has future plans for her new business. “I want to continue to expand and grow with our community,” she said.

Driftless Arrow Boutique is open from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Dahlstrom can be reached at 563-203-2056, and the items her new boutique has to offer are also available on her business website at www.driftlessarrow.com.
