Northeast Iowa Area Agency on Aging offering rent rebate application assistance to older or disabled individuals

Each year, older Iowans or individuals with disabilities may benefit from rent reimbursement. Those individuals can file for rent reimbursement if they met all the below requirements during 2019:

• Age 65 or older or disabled
• Income was less than $23,216
• Lived in Iowa and still live in Iowa now
• Paid rent in Iowa at a property that pays property tax.

Northeast Iowa Area Agency on Aging (NEI3A) is providing older individuals assistance filling out the rent reimbursement application. Make an appointment for that assistance by calling 563-277-6021.

Those scheduling an appointment should bring proof of all of their income, including any SSA-1099 form, social security income, child support, alimony, family investment program, children’s social security income, welfare payments, rent assistance and gambling winnings. Those who receive social security benefits from more than one social security number should include all the income from all applicable numbers. Those who receive food stamps do not have to include that amount in their application.

Those who had no income must provide information on how their rent was paid with no income. They will also need proof of rent payment, which would be a copy of their lease, copies of rent receipts for every month, or a letter from the owner of the property which they are renting.

Northeast Iowa Area Agency on Aging serves 18 counties in northeast Iowa. For more information on this available benefit visit www.nei3a.org.
