Francis "Frank" Schulte

Francis “Frank” V. Schulte, 92, of Dorchester died Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at his home in rural Dorchester. Funeral services were held Monday, January 27 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dorchester with Fr. Mark Osterhaus officiating. Burial was at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Dorchester.

Francis Vincent Schulte was born January 8, 1928 in Spring Grove, MN, the son of Henry and Mary “Mayme” (Connor) Schulte. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dorchester and graduated from Waukon High School in 1946, where he played football and baseball.

November 10, 1949, he married Rita McCormick at St. Mary’s Hanover Catholic Church in rural Waukon. They farmed together in Waterloo Township in rural Dorchester, where they milked cows and raised pigs, beef cattle, chickens and crops. Frank has lived on the family farm for 89 years.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dorchester, where he served on the council and also served on St. Mary’s Cemetery board. Frank was also a member of the NFO and served on the board of directors for German Mutual. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Frank also enjoyed playing cards, working in his garden, was an avid Hawkeye fan, and had a very strong faith.

Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Rita Schulte of Dorchester; his children: Diane (John) McCabe of Cresco, Debbie (Jack) Connor of La Crosse, WI, Gwen (Tim) Walleser of Janesville, WI, Reyne (Les) Knutson of Chatfield, MN, Jan Schulte of Rochester, MN, Kenny and Don Schulte, both of Eagan, MN, and Amy (Carl) White of Rochester, MN; 17 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Jim (Karen) McCormick; two sisters-in-law: Marlene (Tom) Dorn of Weatherford, TX and Jeanette McCormick of Waukon.

He is preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Mike McCabe; a daughter-in-law, Monica Schulte; seven brothers: Clarence, Vincent, Joseph, Hank, Lawrence, Bernard and Mathew Schulte; two sisters, Mary Gavin and Theresa Schulte; his father- and mother-in-law, John and Mary McCormick; his brother-in-law, John Joe McCormick; and a sister-in-law, Theresa McCormick.
