Dolores Walleser

Dolores Marie Walleser, 87, died Thursday, January 23, 2020 at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse, WI. Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, January 27 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lansing with Rev. John Moser as the Celebrant. Burial followed at Gethsemane Cemetery in Lansing.

Dolores was born January 3, 1933 to Frank and Monica (Hogan) Wagner in the Wexford area of Allamakee County. She graduated from Immaculate Conception School in 1951 and married Edwin Walleser in 1953.

Educated in life experience and guided by unquestionable faith, they grew their farm family and their Gruber Ridge farm enterprise. Ed was the risk-taker and Dolores was the risk-manager.  They were powerful partners and created a dynamic family network that has connected many families and generations.

Despite being born in a time of scarcity, Dolores lived an abundant life; a life full of faith, heart and fierce commitment to her family.  She was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan and a loyal Packer and Hawkeye follower. When not with her family, she loved tending her flowers, jaunts to the local casinos and time spent in spirited games of euchre, bridge or 500 with her treasured card club friends.

Dolores is survived by her four sons: Mark (Kris) and Tom (Janet), both of Lansing, Gary (Danielle Luckner) of La Crosse, WI and Robert (Kris) of Sheboygan Falls, WI; four daughters, Judy (Kevin) Selberg and Sharon (John) Roe, both of Waukon; Diane (Pat Nealis) of Jersey City, NJ and Carol (Gary) Bottorff of Lansing; her grandchildren, Matt, Joe, Liza (Dustin Flattum), Brad, Mitchell, Marty, Kelsey, Tanner, Trent, Molly, Elli, Olivia and Jed Walleser, Erik Selberg, Laura Timler, Evan and Callie Bottorff, and Emma and Isaac Roe; and her great grandchildren, Leo Flattum and Amelia Timler. She is also survived by her brothers, Kenneth (Doris) Wagner of Castalia and Clair (Cathy) Wagner of Lansing; her sister, Bernice Walleser of Lansing; her sisters-in-law, Alice Griffin of Dayton, OH, Wilhelmina Finkral of Lansing, Phyllis (Lu) Kimsey of Fort Collins, CO and Isabelle (Leo) Hawes of Lansing; and her sister-in-law, Virginia Wagner of Schererville, IN.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed, in 1997; a granddaughter, Ashley Ann Walleser; a great-granddaughter, Ella Timler; her brothers, Melvin Wagner and Cletus (Bud) Wagner; and her sisters, Mildred, Leota (Dot) Pfiffner and Lucille Wesseln.

Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Lansing assisted the family with arrangements.
