Born September 26, 1934 in Waukon, Elaine was the daughter of the late Harold and Martha (Lier) Hurm. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, James L. Mooney.

Elaine grew up in Lansing and graduated from Immaculate Conception High School. After high school, she attended Viterbo College and while there was featured on a vocal recording. Her natural talents in both music and art brought joy to her and to others. Elaine lived and worked in both Minneapolis, MN and Chicago, IL before settling back in Lansing.

While her greatest purpose was raising her family and loving her grandchildren, Elaine also cared for many other members of her family, never wavering in her commitment and advocacy for those she loved. Her genuine compassion was felt by all who met her, and those who knew her felt lucky to have her as a friend.

A natural red head to the end, she enjoyed matching her jewelry to her outfit, and never left the house without lipstick. Her grandchildren remember her always having ice cream in the freezer, and a hug for all occasions. She was wise and intuitive, loved visiting with people and road trips with her friend, Dorothy.

Elaine leaves behind her children: Connie (Greg) O’Neill, Cathy Mooney, Dan (Renee) Mooney, Dave (Sheryl) Mooney and Dawn Mooney. Her grandchildren will miss her hugs, laughs, and undeniable love: Vanessa (Nic) Chritton, Jessica (Nate) Renley, Megan O’Neill, Nick Mooney, Molly O’Neill, Tom Kerndt, Jason Mooney, Jack Mooney, Will Mooney, Cait Weeks and Brenna Weeks; along with her great-grandchildren, Charlie and Eloise Chritton.
