Alliant Energy offers statement regarding speculated closure of Lansing power plant

In response to the discussion that took place during the Public Comment portion of the Monday, February 24 meeting of the Allamakee County Board of Supervisors reported in the February 26 edition of The Standard in regard to the speculated closure of the Alliant Energy generating station at Lansing, Alliant Energy has issued the following statement through spokesperson Mike Wagner:

“We regularly review our generation resources so that we can operate our facilities in the best interests of our customers. No decision has been made regarding the future of the Lansing Generating Station.”

In a follow-up interview, Wagner further stated that there are some environmental upgrade matters that need to be addressed prior to year 2021 at the Lansing facility but neither he nor any of Alliant’s regional directors were aware of any upcoming meetings scheduled with Lansing area government or school leaders regarding the Lansing generating station. He also said Alliant representatives did attend a meeting at the invitation of area economic development leaders last year but that at this point there is nothing further to report in regard to the Lansing generating station.
