Andy Kelleher, a New Albin resident, has announced his candidacy for the Allamakee County Board of Supervisors. One seat on the Allamakee County Board of Supervisors will be up for election in November of this year.

“My primary motivation to run is mental health,” said Kelleher. “Since Dennis Koenig is not seeking re-election to the Board of Supervisors, his seat on the County Social Services Board will also be open. I would like to pick up that torch and continue to advocate for the people of Allamakee County who may be suffering mental health issues or disabilities. It would also be an honor to be involved with the secondary roads system. Our secondary roads are vital to every aspect of life in Allamakee County, from agriculture to manufacturing to emergency services. I would love to maintain the history of excellent oversight the supervisors have provided for the secondary roads.”

Kelleher is currently the Executive Director of Main Street Lansing, where he promotes economic development, tourism and historic preservation in Lansing. He has loved being able to serve one of the communities that helped raise him. Most of his prior work experience involves work in Christian ministries; he served on the leadership team at Village Creek Bible Camp and helped develop new churches and college ministries across the nation. He is still actively involved in ministry work, serving as the leader of the middle and high school youth program for Christ Community Evangelical Free Church in New Albin.

Kelleher serves as the County-appointed director to the Eastern Iowa Tourism Association, as well as the Vice President of the Allamakee County Economic Development and Tourism Board of Directors. He is the Vice President of the New Albin Public Library Board, and he served on the task force for the Allamakee County Housing Study. He serves on the Upper Explorerland RPA-1 Transportation Enhancement Committee, and he is a member of the regional roundtables hosted by the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque. Through these various boards and roles, he has been able to advocate for the entire county to people across the state.

“I don’t have any sweeping changes to bring to the table; I haven’t had any problems with the way the current Board of Supervisors has been running the county, and I would like to continue business as usual,” said Kelleher. “I’ve always admired the competence of the department heads, as well as the confidence the board places in them.

The County has been led by forward thinkers who do a great job, and it would be a privilege to join their ranks.”

Dennis Koenig of Postville currently occupies the seat after being elected to his second four-year term in the November 2016 general election. Koenig recently announced he will not be seeking re-election to his current Board of Supervisors seat.
