Making the tag for one of three final outs ... Kee baseball senior third baseman Cade Rasque tags out a sliding MFL/MarMac baserunner for one of three outs he recorded in the host Bulldogs’ final at-bats in the Hawks’ 8-2 loss in Class 1A district tournament play Tuesday, July 14. In addition to recording all three of those outs in that seventh inning, Rasque also stroked a single in the final ballgame of his high school athletic career as this season’s lone senior. The Kee baseball team had its 2020 season brought to a close by a familiar foe from the Upper Iowa Conference, as the Hawks fell by an 8-2 result in the Class 1A District 6 semifinal round of play at MFL/MarMac Tuesday, July 14. The Hawks had lost to the 11-5 Bulldogs early on during the regular season, 9-1, and despite knocking the ball around nearly as well as the host squad in tournament play for just a 10-7 MFL/MarMac hit advantage, the Bulldogs were able to take better advantage of the opportunities they were granted in combination with those hits.

In addition to their 10 hits, the Bulldogs got a bit more help from Kee pitching than what they gave, as the Hawks issued seven walks and hit two batters while MFL/MarMac pitching issued two walks and hit one more batter. The host Bulldogs used their combination of opportunities to plate runs in four of their six innings at the plate, including a trio of multi-run stanzas that were each enough if not more than enough to counter the lone inning the Hawks were able to find the scoreboard in.

Kee finished its 2020 season with a 13-6 overall record that includes a mark of 9-4 to place the Hawks second in the final Upper Iowa Conference standings. MFL/MarMac had its season ended in the next round of district tournament play Saturday, July 18 with a 15-0 loss to fourth-rated South Winneshiek in just four innings in the Class 1A District 6 championship game.
