Kee girls track team places seventh at Crestwood Invitational, finishes runner-up at own Kee Invitational on home track

Sets two school records in four wins ... Kee girls track senior Haley Meyer battles fellow Upper Iowa Conference senior stand-out Jalyssa Blazek of Turkey Valley in what turned out to be the race of the night in the 1500 meter run at the Lady Hawks’ home invitational Thursday, April 21. The two career-long rivals competed against one another in three individual races at the meet, with Meyer winning all three, including this 1500 meter battle where the lone Kee senior edged Blazek by just over three-tenths of a second at the finish line for a win in 5:05.50. Meyer also won the 400 meter dash in 59.26 seconds and the 800 meter run in 2:21.37, both of which are new school records. Photo courtesy of the Kee High School Yearbook. Senior Haley Meyer sets two new school records in 400 meter dash, 800 meter run

For the first time this season, the Kee girls track and field team was able to get its full schedule of outdoor competition completed, making great strides and even some history in getting both of its scheduled meets in the books. Those meets included a seventh-place finish at the Crestwood Invitational Tuesday, April 19 followed by a second-place finish at the Lady Hawks’ own Kee Invitational Thursday, April 21 in a meet where Kee’s lone senior, Haley Meyer, gave the hometown crowd plenty to cheer about in the final home meet of her high school career with two new school records and some dramatic finishes in recording four event victories.

The Kee girls were next slated to compete in the Clayton Ridge Invitational Tuesday, April 26 and then the MFL/MarMac Invitational Thursday, April 28. They will then take part in the Edgewood-Colesburg Invitational Monday, May 2 and then the Upper Iowa Conference Meet at Postville Thursday, May 5 before preparing for their Class 1A State Qualifying Meet scheduled for Thursday, May 12.
