Darlene Dickman

Darlene Dickman, age 86, of Decorah died Saturday, June 18, 2022 at Wellington Place in Decorah. Funeral Services were held Tuesday, June 21 at Salem United Church of Christ, Waukon with Rev. Sue Klimstra presiding. Burial was in the Salem Cemetery.

Darlene Mae (Stuckman) Dickman was born December 12, 1935, the daughter of George and Alta (Winkie) Stuckman in Waukon. She attended Ludlow #5 grade school and graduated from Waukon High School in 1954.

Darlene married Norman Dickman June 2, 1955. They spent 63 years of marriage on the family farm before Norman’s passing in 2019.  In 1970, she graduated from the Area 1 Community College Nursing Program. She would go on to work at Winneshiek County Hospital for 24 years and later for Gundersen Clinic for two years.

Darlene served on the FSA board for nine years and was also the bookkeeper of DHIA for 47 years. She was a member of Salem United Church of Christ where she served on the church council and was a member of the Women’s Fellowship Choir.  She and Norman belonged to the Rivers and Bluffs Classic Tractor Association, and she loved to drive her 656 Farmall.

Darlene was proud of winning first place at the National Beef Cookoff with her German Beef Sausage. Norman and Darlene went fishing for 40 years in Minnesota and spent 28 years in Gulf Shores, AL for the cold winter months. She and Norman were also part of the “Birthday Club” where they would get together with neighboring couples to celebrate birthdays every month for 40 years. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Darlene is survived by her daughters, Dawn (Walt) Konetzka of Prospect, KY and Denise (Monty Wilder) Buddenberg of Decorah; her grandchildren, Josh (Amy) Buddenberg of Decorah, Zac Buddenberg of San Diego, CA and Julie Buddenberg of Decorah; her great-grandchildren, Emmett and Brett Buddenberg and Austin Keck; and her sister-in-law, Ellen Dickman of Minot, ND.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Dickman, in 2019; her daughter, Diane Dickman; her parents, George and Alta (Winkie) Stuckman; her brothers, Harlan and Roger Stuckman; her father- and mother-in-law, Edward and Lucy (Dull) Dickman; her brothers-in-law, Edward (Bev) Dickman and Douglas Dickman; and her sister-in-law, Lillian Dickman.
