The 29th annual Veterans Memorial Health Care Foundation Golf Tournament was held Monday, June 20 at the Waukon Golf and Country Club. Twenty-seven teams of three participated in this tournament. Each team enjoyed 18 holes of golf and also enjoyed lunch and dinner prepared by Rich Schulte, Bud and Marge Strike and Family, and the Foundation Directors.

The Foundation gives credit for the success of this tournament to the many local businesses that provide prizes so everyone participating wins. Plus many businesses serving this area contribute as hole sponsors to the tournament making it an enjoyable, community-wide event.

Special hole-in-one contests were sponsored by Farm Bureau agents Wade Bucknell and Andy Moore, and also by Waukon Implement. Volunteers Amy Coyle and Marilyn Anderson were witnesses for these contests.

Other special hole contests and winners included the following: Closest to Pin (Hole #9) was Keeli Ward; Longest Putt (Hole #3) was Rupert Caballero; Closest to the Pin in 2 (Hole #4) was Travis Polodna and Dylan Hogan; and Longest Putt (Hole #7) was Glenn Knipfer.

Many other businesses and individuals pitched in to help with the food expenses and preparation, including Quillin’s Food Ranch, Fareway, Kwik Star, Casey’s, Bud and Marge Strike and Family, Rich Schulte, and the entire Foundation Board.

The 27 teams participating in the tournament consisted of three people each who played a best shot tournament. The winner of the Veterans Memorial Hospital Health Care Foundation’s 28th Annual Golf Tournament with a score of 63 was the team of Jeremy and Dylan Hogan and Kevin Hanson.

The Veterans Memorial Health Care Foundation Board, including Rose Beardmore, Sue Blagsvedt, Mitch Duncklee, Patty Goltz, Kevin Hanson, Judy Herman, Jane Kallevang, Ardie Kuhse, Craig Lensing, Jay Mathis, Nona Sawyer, Nancy Schoh, Kim Sylvester, Matt Teslow and Kay Zimmerman, sponsor this annual golf tournament at the Waukon Golf and Country Club in June each year.
