Robert Heimer

Robert F. Heimer, age 87, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus January 19, 2023 at Northgate Care Center in Waukon. A celebration of life will be planned at a later date.

Robert was born July 13, 1935 in Stacyville, the son of Marvin and Agatha Heimer. He attended St. Augustine High School in Austin, MN, where he met Shirley A. Hobbs. They wed June 5, 1954. Through this union, he was blessed with having seven children: Cheryl (Steve) Kiesau of Champaign, IL, Scott Heimer of Gillette, WY, Lynette Corkery of Muscatine, Susan (Dean) Burroughs of Waukon, Mary (Joel) Anderson of Waukon, the late Martin (Dawn) Heimer of LaCrescent, MN and Catherine (Jim) Gelo of Postville.

Robert was class salutatorian of his high school graduating class. He was a member of the Minnesota National Guard and the Minnesota Military Academy for six years. Robert and Shirley moved to Waukon in 1964 and owned and operated multiple businesses for over 50 years, including the Super Valu grocery store, The Drawing Board banquet center, C-Store convenience store, and several rental properties.

Robert was actively involved in his children’s lives as a CCD Instructor and grand organizer of annual trips to Round Lake “Up North”. Several families from Waukon joined the Heimer clan at “the lake” to share in the fun, fishing, swimming, laughter, card games, and rides on shoulders skiing around the lake.

Robert also enjoyed trapping, cross country skiing, and Saturday night, or any time, dances with his wife. They loved dressing up and gliding across the dance floor with smiles from ear to ear. Robert took pride in many things, but none more than his family.

Robert recently recited the following while in a Zoom meeting with his brothers: “Miss me for a little while, but always with a smile. For my life was rich and full and wholesome mischief was my style. So until we meet again my friends, I’ll await you with a smile.”

Robert is survived by his children, Cheryl, Scott, Lynette, Susan, Mary and Cathy; 24 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; his brothers, Harvey Heimer of Arkansaw, WI, Theodore Heimer of Apple Valley, MN, Gary Heimer of Brainard, MN and David Heimer of Portland, OR; and his sister-in-law, Nancy (James) Heimer. He is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; his son, Martin Heimer; his parents; and his brother, James Heimer.
