Robert "Bob" Roeder

Robert “Bob” A. Roeder, 72, of Lansing passed away Tuesday, February 28, 2023 at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids due to heart complications. Memorial services were held Sunday, March 5 at Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home in Lansing with Pastor Bryan Robertson officiating. Military graveside honors were at Oak Hill Cemetery, Lansing. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Robert Allen Roeder was born November 27, 1950 in Lansing, the son of Clyde and Melita (Pottratz) Roeder. Growing up, Bobby helped run and operate the family business; his parents owned Roeder Tap (now The OP) in Lansing.

Bob graduated from Lansing Kee High School in 1970 and was a stellar athlete, excelling in baseball and basketball. After graduation, he entered the United States Army and served from 1970-1972. After receiving his discharge, he met the love of his life, Rita, at the Bright Spot in De Soto, WI. Bob and Rita Myhre were married June 2, 1973 in De Soto.

He was chief of police in Lansing and in 1978 moved his family to Cedar Rapids, where he served the State of Iowa for 26 years as a captain in the correctional system. He ended his career at the Iowa Medical and Classification Center in Coralville. After retirement, he moved back to his hometown of Lansing on the Mississippi River.

Bob was an outdoorsman who had tremendous love for the river. He pursued deer and duck hunting with astounding enthusiasm. He was an avid Cubs and Packers fan and was a master pool player. Bob enjoyed playing euchre, golfing, and spending time with his friends and family. He was very proud of his girls and grandchildren.

Survivors include his children, Rebecca Joens (Michael Smith) of LaPorte City and Robin Roeder (Bret Voss) of Ely; his grandchildren, Johnny Joens, Emma Joens and Haley Ainesworth; his great-grandchildren, Zy’aire and Ka’cyn; his siblings, Richard Roeder (Mary) of Lansing and Roger Roeder (Sheri) of Swisher; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Melita Roeder; and his wife, Rita Roeder.

Bob was a great man and was loved by all that surrounded him. The simple pleasures in life brought great joy to Bob. He will be greatly missed and is now reunited with his beloved wife in heaven.

Honorary casketbearers were Jeff Bechtel, Mark Dehli, John Duehr, Bob Havlik, Dave Noelting, Adam Roeder, Brad Roeder and Mike Schmidtz.
