In support of Waukon Indian athletics ... Allamakee Athletic Booster Club board member Karen Frick (left) presents a donation check to Waukon High School Activities Director and Assistant Principal Brian Hilsabeck in the amount of $26,211.19. Those who want to provide their own sponsorship of the Allamakee Athletic Booster Club may do so by filling out the sponsorship form printed on Page 19 of this same edition of The Standard with their choice of sponsorship level and bringing it to the Community Appreciation Meal being hosted by the Booster Club Tuesday, August 20 at the Waukon High School in conjunction with the Meet the Team Night that will kick off this school year’s athletic seasons. Gary Kroeger is featured speaker, all are welcome to provide Booster sponsorship

Waukon High School and the Allamakee Athletic Booster Club will be joining forces Tuesday, August 20 for the annual Community Appreciation Meal and Meet the Team Night Tuesday, August 20 at the Waukon High School. The event will begin at 5 p.m. with the Booster Club’s annual Community Appreciation Meal in the Waukon High School Cafeteria, with a guest speaker and the opportunity to meet the Waukon Indian fall athletic teams and watch them scrimmage.

The Community Appreciation Meal provides an opportunity for anyone to contribute a sponsorship to the Allamakee Athletic Booster Club (AABC). Those wishing to do so may fill out the form in the advertisement found on Page 19 in this edition of The Standard and bring it to Tuesday’s meal for a year-long sponsorship at any of the five funding levels also listed in the ad.

Those sponsorships, along with other fundraising measures, allow the Allamakee Athletic Booster Club to help support Waukon Indian athletics in such manners as helping purchase new uniforms on a rotational basis, upgrade or replace equipment for safety and improvement purposes, or help pay for camps or other team events, among other things. Those efforts most recently resulted in the Allamakee Athletic Booster Club presenting a donation check in the amount of $26,211.19 to the Waukon Indian athletic program (as pictured in the photo accompanying this article).

“I am very proud of the positive partnership the school has with the AABC,” Waukon High School Activities Director and Assistant Principal Brian Hilsabeck said. “The services the booster club provides to our community during contests and the profits they retain greatly benefit our students/athletes in the many different programs we offer. The booster members are always looking for help with shifts to fill with the many different events we host here in Waukon. I am optimistic that parents, students and community members will step up and see how important this partnership is and will help fill open shifts at the concession stand during hosting activities. This is a fun environment and a great opportunity to help support our students.”

While also getting to enjoy an appreciation meal, those attending can listen to this year’s featured speaker in the Waukon High School gym. Gary Kroeger is a native of Cedar Falls who performed on Saturday Night Live in the early 1980s. After moving to Los Angeles, CA, Kroeger furthered his career with appearances in several television shows and series, hosting television game shows, and playing lead roles in several films.

In 2003, Kroeger moved back to Cedar Falls and worked as Creative Director for Mudd Advertising and is now the CEO of Outlier Creative Solutions. He is a motivational speaker and emcee. He keeps active in community theater and is a statewide spokesman for Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for abused and neglected children. Kroeger speaks frequently at events that focus on mentoring students to become better citizens through leadership.

Following Kroeger’s presentation, members of the Waukon Indian football, volleyball and cross country teams will be introduced in the high school gym. Those teams will then host their own respective team scrimmages to round out the night.
