Saying more than just words ... The saying “YOUR INTUITION LED YOU HERE” inscribed on the wall inside Earth Frequency Apothecary & Reiki, recently opened at 106 Rossville Road in Waukon by Waukon native Jessica Winters, often answers the question as to why customers are drawn to the new store. Winters says her customer base includes those who are experienced herbalists and are looking for a specific item, the curious shopper who wants to know more, or people who come in and say they don’t really know why they stopped in, but felt that draw to the store. For Waukon native Jessica Winters, a dream three years in the making has finally been realized with the opening of Earth Frequency Apothecary & Reiki May 16, 2024. The store is located at 106 Rossville Road in Waukon.
Her new store carries a variety of items for all ages and interests in alternative healing and therapies, as well as offering many unique services to compliment her retail business. The retail store is open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and services, like Reiki sessions, are done from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday through Friday. Earth Frequency Apothecary & Reiki is also open Saturdays by appointment for store or services.
In 2015, Jessica had a near death experience, and through it she learned of her mediumship abilities and reading gifts. This is where her own personal journey began. In 2021, she found out that she had an optic nerve tumor. Her options were to do nothing or have the tumor biopsied, which would have left her blind. That was when Jessica was led to herbal and alternative remedies.
After an eight-month regimen of meditation, prayer and self-teaching through herbs and fungi, Jessica’s MRI showed her tumor had shrunk by half. She says she has also been off almost all of her eye prescriptions and no longer needs glasses daily and a new prescription every six months. Prior to her journey into herbal healing, Jessica said that one of her eyes wouldn’t move normally, which caused massive vertigo, swelling and pain. This has since gone away. After her results with her eyes and tumor, she began to delve deeper into herbalism and treating her other health issues.
“I am now off my epi pen for many allergies, that would make me swell and land me in the ER (emergency room) monthly with an anaphylaxis-like reaction - Idiopathic Angioedema,” she explained.
Jessica says she also had issues with gluten and dairy, and can now eat foods containing gluten again without problems. She was also told that she was allergic to preservatives in foods, soaps and other common, everyday items and would need to find another way to live because of her suffering.
“Because of my own personal journey, I began the schooling to help others,” Jessica says. “This is my soul’s purpose.”
She left her employment with University of Iowa Healthcare in order to be able to follow her dream of teaching others about alternative remedies for mind, body and soul.
Jessica is a Clinical Herbalist and Reiki Master Practitioner. She studied Meditation with Sadguru, a famous Yogi from India, and with Graham Nicholls of The Priority Academy. She achieved her Reiki Master certification through Red Pine Reiki in Sparta, WI, and partnered with Medium Diane Doyle doing live shows in order to strengthen her confidence in her mediumship abilities.
Jessica has received Herbalism degrees from Everglades University, The Hyamson Institute and Elizabeth Heck’s Home Herb School. She constantly builds on her knowledge by attending retreats, classes and networking with those in similar fields around the world. She continuously reads to stay up to date on the new scientific studies coming out regarding alternative healing modalities and herbs. Recently, she was contacted by the International Association of Near Death Studies, after they had heard her story, about possible membership.
Earth Frequency carries an abundance of herbs, tea blends, tinctures, smokables, oils and salves. Jessica enjoys being able to share her knowledge with visitors to the shop. Each of the herbs and tea blends are labeled to let shoppers know what they support and how to safely use them. Jessica also says her products aren’t meant to replace Western medicine, but to work alongside it.
“I just want to give people another avenue,” she says of her efforts through Earth Frequency Apothecary & Reiki. “Going back to what nature provides without the chemicals and additives, which were really destroying my body at one point.”
She also tells customers that they should discuss alternative remedies with their primary care providers. Jessica’s goal is to provide a warm, friendly atmosphere and help her customers. She says she sees all types, from those who are experienced herbalists and are looking for a specific item, to the curious shopper who wants to know more, to people who come in and say they don’t really know why they stopped in, but felt drawn to the store. Very poignantly, one wall of the store holds a saying that states “YOUR INTUITION LED YOU HERE.”
Encouraging her customers to use all of their five senses, she works with them to find remedies that are right for them. With a short meditation and then going through the herbs with her customers, she teaches her clients how to let their own intuition and instinct guide them.
Located at the front of her store is a special copper meditation pyramid that came from India. Customers often sit under the pyramid to meditate and tune into their bodies while sipping on the tea of the day. Jessica says that several customers have deemed this the “magical pyramid” and she does have customers who travel long distances to Waukon for this experience.
In addition to the herbal remedies, Jessica also carries clothing that is made from Sari silk and comes from a seamstress in India. She carries a variety of sizes and colors, with the intent to give all body types a chance to feel beautiful and comfortable. She also carries jewelry and a variety of crystals and stones, labeled with their properties and things they can help with.
Jessica also offers several more hands-on services in the realm of alternative healing. She does mediumship and readings, spiritual life coaching, sound baths, home energy cleanses, aura cleanses and Reiki sessions. She explained that Reiki is working with life force energy. During a Reiki session, the client lays down after Jessica puts them into a meditative state, and she begins working with their energy. She says Reiki can be with or without touching the client.
Jessica describes Reiki as a non-invasive treatment, noting that the body will only take what it needs. “Nothing is forced upon you,” Jessica explains.
During a treatment session, she reads and works with the client’s energy, with the goal to release anything that is negatively affecting the body. Reiki can be beneficial for illnesses, pain, trauma, addiction and helping a person find themselves. She can do Reiki treatments on adults of any age, as well as children and animals.
She uses Singing Bowls for sound baths and she uses tuning forks for what Jessica describes as “vibrational acupuncture.” Everything has energy and frequency, and Jessica wants to help people tune into those. She says that one of her favorite quotes comes from Nicola Tesla, and says, “If you want to find the secrets of the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency and vibration.”
If customers can’t make it to her store location on Rossville Road, Jessica says she will go to people’s homes for Reiki treatments and aura and home cleansings. Her Reiki Master certification also qualifies her to do Reiki in hospitals to help with end of life stages.
One of Jessica’s favorite things about running Earth Frequency Apothecary & Reiki is that she gets to help people. She strongly feels that natural remedies work best as a community. She wants people to know that there’s more to life than just waking up, going to work, sleeping, consuming and then leaving the Earth.
“I help people to slow down, to get in tune with who they are on a soul level. Whether you are a Christian, Atheist, Spiritual or simply do not know where you stand, Earth Frequency is a non-judgmental and safe space. Everyone is welcome here,” Jessica says.
Herbal remedies and alternative healing can be overwhelming, so it’s less daunting when a person has a knowledgeable, compassionate, understanding practitioner to guide them through it. In the future, Jessica hopes to be able to expand on her business and purchase a building or build new. Her goal is to one day be able to offer a Sensory Deprivation Tank, Salt Room, Meditation Pod, and much more. Starting next year, Jessica plans to hold classes for anyone of all experience levels to take.
Her Facebook page, Earth Frequency Apothecary & Reiki, also features announcements, videos and information on herbs, things that one can find in her store and things one can find in his or her own backyard, and their uses. Jessica is also looking to add products, art and crafts made by local artisans.
“Helping people has always been a passion of mine and I can relate to many,” Jessica says. “I simply want to help my own community, the community that helped raise me and watched me grow up.”
In addition to being a business owner with her new venture, Jessica is also a mom of two boys, and a pet parent of two dogs and two cats. She is currently also working on an autobiography which she hopes will be available next year.
