Prize winners in Robey Memorial Library’s 2024 Reading Challenge

Robey Memorial Library in Waukon has announced the conclusion of its “Read. Renew. Repeat.” Adult Reading Challenge, a yearlong literary adventure that took place from January 1 to December 31, 2024. This initiative invited readers to explore diverse genres and themes, encouraging them to discover something new by tackling books from 12 thoughtfully selected categories, including: Animal-themed; Based on a true story; Classic; From your childhood/youth; Nature-themed; Reader’s Choice; Recycled (garage sale, second-hand store, or borrowed from a friend); Science; Teaches you something; Tragedy; Travel-themed; Weather-related.

Participants earned entries into prize drawings as they completed books within these categories, with opportunities to win rewards. The highlight of the challenge came with the announcement of the winners. Following a random drawing, Robey Memorial Library awarded Waukon Bucks and gift certificates to Jennifer Achenbach and Carolyn Adam (left to right in two top photos at right above), along with Colinda Roderick (not pictured). Lori Heitman (photo at far left above) was the winner of the Challenge’s grand prize, a tablet.

This year’s challenge saw 38 participants collectively reading 254 books. Among these readers, 10 completed the full challenge by exploring all 12 categories, demonstrating their commitment to literary discovery.

Robey Memorial Library extends its gratitude to the sponsors whose generosity made this challenge possible: Ashbacher Building Supplies; FreedomBank; Hacker Nelson & Co; Holthaus Tax & Accounting; Nick Jones Earth Moving & Logging; Palmer Abstract; Peoples State Bank; Reel Core; Shafer Law Office; Torkelson-Waukon; Upper Iowa Insurance Services Corporation; Waukon State Bank.
