Dale T. Leikvold, age 64, of Sheldon passed away Friday, May 16, 2025, at his residence. A celebration of life will be held August 2 at the Eagles Club in Sheldon, from 3-8 p.m. His family welcomes everyone from near and far to join them in remembering Dale. Arrangements are under the care of the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon.
Dale “Smear” Thomas Leikvold, the son of Lloyd and Theresa (Kelly) Leikvold, was born May 1, 1961 in Waukon. He received his education from Waukon Schools.
He married Barb Schwebach June 21, 1986 and to this union they had three children; Daren, Devin and Amanda. He passed away at his home May 16, 2025, reaching the age of 64 years and 15 days. In his earlier years, he worked for Design Homes and growing up he would work on his great-uncle’s farm doing everything you could think of from bailing hay to getting the tractors running. Dale could really do anything asked of him. He was a jack of all trades. He worked for Schwebach Tree Service for eight years when he decided to retire last year.
Throughout Dale’s years he loved water skiing and you could find him out on the river in Lansing. His son, Daren, gave him the nickname “Smear” and that’s what he went by for years with his coworkers, friends and family. Dale loved doing scratch tickets, you could find him scratching away on just one ticket for days and when he would have a lucky winner he would give them to his daughter, Amanda. He loved putting puzzles together, especially the ones he would get from his granddaughter, Lily. He enjoyed playing chess with his son, Daren, and was a hard one to beat.
Left to cherish his memories are his son, Daren, and his wife, Kayla Leikvold; his daughter, Amanda Leikvold; four grandchildren: Gabe Hughes, LilyAnn Leikvold, William Hughes and Leighton Leikvold; his siblings, Lyle Leikvold and Julie Stietz; in addition to other relatives and friends. Dale was preceded in death by his parents, and his son, Devin Lloyd.
