Frances Jones

Frances Jones, 81, of Dubuque, passed away August 16, 2025 at Stonehill Health Center. A funeral service was held Wednesday, August 20 at Summit Congregational United Church of Christ (UCC), Dubuque. Burial followed the service in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Fran was born September 30, 1943, in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Frank and Beatrice (Lovadiro) Doeppke. She attended The Little Red School House in Allamakee County for eight years. She went on to attend and graduate from Waukon High School.

She was united in marriage to Everett Jones February 23, 1962. They shared 63 wonderful years together. From their union, they were blessed with four children, Darwin, Brenda, Scott, and Brian, who passed away in infancy.

Fran worked with special needs students for many years in the Dubuque Community School District and at Area Residential Care. Later she worked in administration at Bethany Home, and Volunteered at Finley Hospital as a patient escort.

Fran was very involved in the church, being a member of many boards over the years, and involved in many activities, most importantly, Bible study. She was also a member of the Dubuque Ecumenical Emmaus Community.

She loved gardening, crocheting prayer shawls for the Prayer Shawl ministry group at Finley, and quilting. She had a passion for traveling. She and her sisters took many trips together, with Hawaii, Alaska, and Italy being some of note. She enjoyed antiquing, collecting many cherished items along the way. Mostly, Fran was happiest while serving others, and spending time with her family.

Fran is survived by her husband, Everett; her children, Darwin (Janet) Jones, Brenda (Chuck) Petsch, and Scott Jones; her grandchildren, Kelly Jones, Adam Jones, Beth (Michael Schlarmann, and William Petsch, her great-grandchildren, Makayla and Chloe Schlarmann, and Norah Jones; her sisters, Carol Schaefer and Pat James; her sisters-in-law, Lucille Dlouhy, Anaruth Dimmer, and Carol Bueger; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded by her parents; a son, Brian, in infancy; her mother- and father-in-law, Ruth and Leo Jones; her in-laws, Irvin Troendle, Al Schaefer, Leonard Dlouhy, Lyle Dimmer, Willi Buerger, Grace (Virgil) Groves, and Emmet (Bernadine) Jones.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Summit Congregational United Church of Christ, Hospice of Dubuque, or a charity of your choice.

Fran’s family wishes to thank Hospice of Dubuque, especially Angela, Melanie, and Michele, Pastor Karen Candee, and the staff at Stonehill Health center for the loving care they provided to her.
