Angela Lager

Angela Lager, 91, passed away peacefully February 6, 2026 at the Golden Horizons in Worthington, MN. She was comforted and supported by her longtime friend, Wayne Scholtes.

Angela donated her body  to the University of Minnesota. There will be no visitation or services at this time.

She was born July 14, 1934, in New Albin, the daughter of Floyd Pottratz and Rita (O’Donnell) Pottratz. She graduated from New Albin High School.

She married Bill Lager after graduation in 1952. They lived in West Union, where she graduated with a teaching degree in elementary education from the University of Northern Iowa. Several years later they moved to St. Peter, MN.  Angela continued teaching first grade in St. Peter and eventually took a job teaching first grade at Monroe Elementary School in North Mankato. At this time she pursued a Masters in Education. After over 30 years at this school she retired.

Angela not only taught the basics in her classroom  - she also taught her students to ice skate, roller skate and fly kites. Education was her life and teaching reading her passion.

After the tornado of 1998 devastated the town of St. Peter, leaving Angela without a home, she moved to North Mankato, MN. There, after retiring, she volunteered at Salvation Army and participated in respite care. She remained very faithful to her religion.

In her retirement years, Angela returned to her second love, DANCING. She met Wayne and they became a dance team for over 20 years. There were few dances and contests that they missed.

Angela is survived by her sisters, Becky Andresen of Davenport and Christy Lampert of Brownsville, MN; and two brothers, Bob of Melrose, MN and Dennis of Decorah. She is also survived by her longtime companion and dance partner, Wayne Scholtes. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews who truly enjoyed her. Angela is preceded in death by her late husband, Bill; her parents, Rita and Floyd Pottratz; and her brothers, Tom and Lloyd.
