The Allamakee County Veterans Museum, located at 105 Allamakee Street in Waukon, has announced that it has started a new picture wall at the museum to include photographs of all Allamakee County Veterans of service in all branches of the Armed Forces from all eras. This wall is separate from the museum’s Wall of Honor for those commemorated as Killed in Action (KIA) and Prisoners of War (POW).
The image below shows part of the wall that has been created thus far with photos and information that are already available in the museum’s collection. The image above also show the wooden plaque containing the “Oath of Enlistment” taken by all persons enlisting in the Armed Forces of the United States. That plaque currently hangs above the rows of pictures on the new and expanding photo wall. Each picture on the wall will be enclosed in a 5”x7” frame and, along with the photo, will include the name, branch, rank, date of service, etc. for the veteran pictured. Pictures should be of veterans in their dress or duty uniform whenever possible.
Veterans or their families wanting a picture included on the new photo wall at the museum are asked to bring the museum a photograph plus relevant information to be added to the photo. Any size photo is acceptable and will be copied to the appropriate size and returned to the veteran or family.
The Allamakee County Veterans Museum is open to the public each Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and each Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. The museum is also open to the public when programs are specially scheduled, and by appointment, which can be made by calling 563-568-2954 or emailing info@allamakeehistory.org. There is no admission charge or other costs required to be able to tour the museum. Submitted images.
