Waukon High School Music Department conducting “Adopt a Uniform” fundraising campaign to replace old music uniforms

The Waukon High School Music Department is seeking donations for new high school marching band and concert band uniforms through an “Adopt a Uniform” campaign. The current band uniforms were purchased in 1997 and are in need of replacement following years of usage and alterations.

The Allamakee Community School District and the Allamakee Music Boosters will each be providing one-third of the funding for the uniform replacement project, leaving a final third of the total cost to be raised through the “Adopt-a-Uniform” donation drive. Donation levels for specific pieces of the uniforms being sought are listed on donation forms available from Waukon High School, but any donation amount would be welcome.

Waukon High School band members have reviewed numerous styles and sample uniforms and voted on orange and black uniforms. The concert band uniforms selected are black tuxedos and formal dresses.

Allamakee Community School District celebrates many aspects of learning in observance of American Education Week

Enhancing learning in the ACSD ... Recent enhancements to learning within the Allamakee Community School District are just part of the many aspects being celebrated by the school district during American Education Week, November 12-16. Pictured above, eighth grade students (left to right) Brock Bockman and Berlin Troendle use their school-issued laptop computers to research terms in English. The Allamakee Community School District (ACSD) brings out the best in the community. Those who attend any event, from an elementary concert to a middle school track meet, to a high school musical, witness all ages celebrating the talents of young people.

These public events, while integral to the mission of the school, are only part of the offerings and opportunities. ACSD is a place for diverse opportunities that are worthy of celebrating throughout the year, not just during American Education Week, which is being observed November 12-16 this year.

St. Patrick students learn the benefits of Nitroball ...

Students at St. Patrick School in Waukon learned another new game in their Physical Education class to help them remain active and develop skills. The game is called Nitroball (pictured above), and it has the same fundamental elements and rules as volleyball but the net is much lower to the ground and the students have to let the ball bounce once before hitting it. The lower net allows the students to practice all the skills of volleyball, including the spike. Allowing the ball to bounce once before hitting it also gives the students more time to react. Waukon Middle School 10th hour program enjoys recent afternoon ...

Students in the Waukon Middle School 10th hour afterschool program (pictured above) recently went “Groovin’ to the ‘music’ on a Wednesday afternoon!” at Jewels skating rink in Decorah. The following poetic description of the event was compiled and submitted by 10th hour student Ethan Kelly:

They can’t imagine anything better, the world is ours whenever we’re together;

There were lots of things that they could see and do, like singing, dodgeball and freestyle skating too.

We can be anyone we want to be, just so we have some fun is the key.

But the greatest of all was the Limbo contest, where it was a success.

How low can you go to the floor, the winners were Mia, Jacob and Taylor (picture at right, left to right).

The ice cream was the best, when it was time for a rest.

Stopping at the “Sugar Bowl” for a treat, enjoying something great to eat.
