Carlton Jones to celebrate 100th birthday

Carlton Jones of Waukon will celebrate his 100th birthday with an open house Sunday, August 10 at the Farm Bureau Building in Waukon from 1-4 p.m. Those unable to attend may send cards and well wishes to the Good Samaritan Center, c/o Carlton Jones, 21 E. Main St., Waukon, IA 52172.

Becker family reunion Aug. 31

Descendants of John Henry Becker and Mary Elizabeth Hammel, born in the 1800s, will gather for a family reunion Sunday, August 31 at Waukon City Park in the Sweeney Pavilion. A potluck dinner will be served at 11:30 a.m. with lemonade and table service provided. Those planning to attend are asked to  bring a covered dish and folding chairs. There will be chicken and hot dogs available to purchase at the reunion. Those planning to attend are also asked to bring any family photos and memories to share. WHS Class of 1979 reunion

The 35-year reunion of Waukon Senior High’s Class of 1979 will be held at the Waukon Golf and Country Club Saturday, August 16.
Reservations for tee times for the afternoon golf outing will be accepted beginning August 11. Assemble a foursome or join a group by calling the Country Club at 563-568-9939. For more information about the golf outing, contact David Wiedner at dbwiedner@earthlink.net.
Louise (Monserud) Wild will lead a tour of the new high school at 4 p.m.
Social hour at the Country Club will begin at 6 p.m., followed by food, music and socializing from 7 to 11 p.m.

WHS Class of 1947 reunion

Waukon High School’s Class of 1947 will get together for breakfast Thursday morning, August 7. Class members are invited to meet at the east side of Quillin’s parking lot in Waukon at 8:30 a.m. to share rides to the Sportsman’s Club near Dorchester.

Bulman family reunion held

The 56th annual reunion of Bulman descendants was held Sunday, July 20 at the Community Center in Eitzen, MN.
Five Bulman ancestors came to America from Little Thetford, England (70 miles north of London) in the 1850s. A sailing ship took them to New Orleans, LA and then they went upriver to Evansville, IN, where they stayed for five years before settling in English Bench near Dorchester.
A potluck dinner was followed by a business meeting led by Chairman Bruce Bulman of Caledonia, MN. Five people portrayed the earliest pioneers and gave readings about them.

Birth announcement: Mitchell

Autumn and Todd Mitchell of Waukon announce the birth of their daughter, Juniper Lee Mitchell, July 20, 2014 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. She weighed 5 lbs., 12.4 ozs. and measured 19-1/2 inches in length at the time of her birth. She joins a sister, Brooke (1-1/2).
Grandparents are Dan and Syl Manning of Prairie du Chien, WI, Jim and Mary Mitchell of Waukon and Andrea Mueller of Lansing. Great-grandparents are George and Carmen Lee of Lansing, Patty and Gene Burroughs of Dorchester, George and Laure Manning of Lansing and Sandy Arentz of Florida. Great-great-grandparents are Florence Ames of La Crosse, WI, Margaret Blake of Dorchester and Evelyn Manning of Lansing.

Birth announcement: Vorwald

Matthew and Leigh Vorwald of Monona announce the birth of their son, Hayes Matthew Vorwald, July 23, 2014 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. He weighed 7 lbs., 13 ozs. and measured 21 inches in length at the time of his birth.
Grandparents are Mike and Lori Vorwald and Blane and Cheryl Corlett, all of McGregor. Great-grandparents are Harold and Joanne Vorwald of Monona and Ralph and Olga Corlett of McGregor.

Hammel, Bakula to wed Aug. 9

Sarah Hammel of Dorchester and Jason Bakula of Fort Atkinson are pleased to announce their engagement and upcoming wedding. The couple plans to exchange vows August 9 at St. John’s Nepomucene Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson. A reception will be held following the ceremony at the Echo Valley Banquet and Reception Hall in West Union.
The bride-elect is the daughter of Charles and Deborah Hammel of Dorchester. She is a 2006 graduate of Waukon Senior High and a 2010 graduate of Simpson College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology. She is currently employed as a Quality Scientist at Zoetis, an animal pharmaceutical company located in Charles City.
The groom-elect is the son of John and Nancy Bakula of Fort Atkinson. He is a 2007 graduate of Turkey Valley High School and a 2009 graduate of Northeast Iowa Community College with a degree in Ag Productions and Agronomy. He is currently employed at Farmer’s Mill in Protivin.

Mescher, Rowe to wed August 2

Beth Mescher and Reggie Rowe, both of Dubuque, announce their upcoming wedding. They plan to exchange vows August 2 at Resurrection Church in Dubuque.
Parents of the couple are Randy and Vickie Mescher of Edgewood and Dean and Sheri Rowe of Fredericksburg. Grandparents of the groom-to-be are Mr. and Mrs. Vernis Haberichter of Waukon.
The bride-to-be is the Director of Communications for Greater Dubuque Development Corporation. The groom-to-be is a Certified Public Accountant and Accounting Manager at Honkamp Krueger & Co., P.C.

Jason and Lorie Hackman of Waukon are celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary. They were married July 30, 1989. They will spend their special day with their daughter, Haylee, and family.
