Obituaries are published in The Standard for a $45 fee and can be brought to the office at 15 First Street NW in Waukon, mailed to PO Box 286, Waukon IA 52172, or e-mailed to news@waukonstandard.com. Photos may be included for an additional charge of $15 (additonal photos are also $15). Obituaries of excessive length (longer than our single-column length of 15.5") will also incur an additional charge of $11/column inch for the content measuring longer than our 15.5-inch column length. Jason Neuman

Jason Robert Neuman, age 35, died September 6, 2015. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, October 10 from 3-7 p.m. at Good Fellas in Waukon. All are welcome.
Jason was born October 13, 1979 in Torrance, CA to Bruce and Karen Neuman. He lived in California until 1987, when he and his mom moved to Dorchester. Jason attended both Dorchester and Waukon schools. After high school he lived in various parts of the Tri-State area, and in two years in Austin, TX. Eventually, he came back to Dorchester, where he resided until the time of his passing.
Jason had many hobbies and passions. He was an avid collector of anything “Simpson” and Nintendo, he lived for music, and he enjoyed spending much of his time outdoors camping, hiking, traveling, fishing and canoeing. He was also a star in the kitchen, constantly crafting new creations for anyone to try. Jason had a beautiful soul, he was an amazing son, brother, uncle and friend. He will be forever missed and loved.

Donald Dee

Donald LeRoy Dee, 79, of Lansing died Monday, September 14, 2015 at Thornton Manor in Lansing. A Memorial Service was held Thursday, September 17 at the United Methodist Church in Lansing, with Rev. Kevin Smith as the Officiant. Private family burial will be held at a later date.
Donald was born May 13, 1936 to Leonard and Gladys (Wendel) Dee in La Crosse, WI. He graduated high school from Lansing High School in 1954. After high school Donald was drafted into the Army in 1955 and was honorably discharged in 1957.
Donald was united in marriage to Carol Stock March 14, 1959 at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon. Three children were born to this union. He was a farmer and a dump truck driver. He loved spending time with his family.

Rosalie Weber-Halverson

Rosalie Ann Weber-Halverson, 77, of Lansing died Saturday, September 19, 2015 at Thornton Manor in Lansing after a brave battle with cancer. Private family services will take place at a later date.
Rosalie was born February 13, 1938 to Hebert and Rosalie (DuCharme) Spalla in Eastman, WI. She graduated from Aquinas High School in La Crosse, WI.
Rosalie was united in marriage with Robert Weber February 28, 1960 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in DeSoto, WI. To this union two children were born, Kimberly and David. Robert passed away in 1986. Rosalie was united in marriage to Harvey Halverson at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lansing in 1989.
Rosalie was a homemaker for her family and helped on the farm in Mays Prairie. She volunteered her time teaching children to bowl. She enjoyed crocheting, embroidery, bowling and playing the penny slots at Lady Luck Casino in Marquette.

William Kocian

William “Bill” Joseph Kocian, Sr., age 58, of Waukon passed away Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, WI. He spent his last moments surrounded by his family and loved ones. Family and friends remembered Bill Sunday, September 20 at the Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah.
Bill was born March 18, 1957 to Anna M. (Malec) and Rudolph L. Kocian in Pittsburgh, PA. He grew up a Pirates and Steelers fan, often times skipping school for opening day. Riding mini-bike and playing street hockey were some of his favorite activities.

Norma "Jean" Higdon

Norma “Jean” Higdon, age 82, formerly of Spirit Lake, passed away peacefully September 15, 2015 at Thornton Manor, Lansing. Memorial services were held Thursday, September 17 at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Spirit Lake. Burial followed at Lakeview Cemetery.
Jean Higdon, the daughter of Elsie (Larson) and Archie Rouse, was born January 10, 1933 in Laurens. She graduated from Spirit Lake High School in 1952.
In 1955, Jean was united in marriage to Pat Delaney, and they were later divorced. In June of 1978 she married the love of her life, Lawrence Higdon, and they were united until the time of his passing in 2014. Jean lived in California, Lakefield, MN, Lake Park and Dugger, IN before moving back to Waukon in 2014.

Virginia Kruger

Virginia C. Kruger, age 95, of Harpers Ferry passed away Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at Thornton Manor in Lansing. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, September 19 at St. Gabriel’s Church of the Holy Family Parish in Prairie du Chein, WI, with Rev. James Weighner officiating. Entombment was at St. Adalbert’s Garden Mausoleum in Milwaukee, WI.
Virginia was born October 25, 1919 in Sparta, WI, the daughter of William and Frances (Schaller) Ziegler.  She married Fred Cassel in 1939, who later preceded her in death in 1996. She worked as an assembler for Deltrol Electronics in Milwaukee, WI. She later married Merlin Kruger October 28, 2000.
Virginia was an active member of the Eagles Club and enjoyed gambling and playing cards. She enjoyed time with friends and family and always had a joke.

JoAnn Scherf

JoAnn Alice Scherf, 70, of Harpers Ferry died Monday, September 7, 2015 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Funeral Services were held Friday, September 11 at St. John Lutheran Church, Farmersburg, with Rev. Harold McMillin as the Officiant. Burial followed at the Garnavillo Cemetery, Garnavillo.
JoAnn was born December 6, 1944 to Arthur and Lucille (Bruns) Wagner in Farmersburg. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Farmersburg. JoAnn graduated high school from MFL in 1963.
JoAnn was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Lloyd Scherf, December 21, 1963 at St. John Lutheran Church in Farmersburg. Five children were born to this union. They lived in St. Olaf from 1967 until 1987, then moved to Harpers Ferry and owned and operated J & L One Stop for five years and The Harbor House for 12 years.

Shirley Manning

Shirley Lavonne (Lund) Manning, 72, passed away at her home in Postville Monday, September 7, 2015. Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, September 11 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Lansing, with Rev. John Moser as the Celebrant. Burial followed at Gethsemane Cemetery, Lansing.
Shirley was born October 28, 1942 in Iowa City, the only child of Matthias and Jesse (Geno) Lund. She graduated from Lansing High School.
Shirley married Gerald F. (Jerry) Manning at Immaculate Conception, Lansing June 29, 1968. Shirley and Jerry lived in the Lansing area for the majority of their married life. Shirley worked at McGregor Speaker Factory, Lansing Company Button Factory and they operated Jer & Shirl’s Tap in the 1970s as well as the River Lanes Tavern and Bowling Alley in Lansing until 1999. Jerry passed away December 24, 1999.

John "Jack" Mangrich

John "Jack" Phillip Mangrich, 75, of Lansing died Friday, September 4, 2015 at his home in Lansing. Private family services will be held at a later date.
Jack was born November 7, 1939 to Anthony "Tony" and Regina "Jean" (Meisch) Mangrich in Gilbertville. He graduated from Don Bosco High School in Gilbertville.
Jack was united in marriage to Joleen Sadler January 30, 1961. They later divorced.  He was united in marriage to Sandy Peters April 19, 1989.   He worked for John Deere in Waterloo, and after 27 years of service he retired. He enjoyed longbow shooting, wood crafting, hunting, fishing and going to the Prairie du Chien Rendezvous.  In his younger years, he also enjoyed canoeing. He was a charter member of the Raymond, Iowa Bow Hunters Club.

Audrey and Boyd Groezinger

A celebration of life will be held for Audrey and Boyd Groezinger at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 19 at Zion United Church in Waukon with Pastor Samantha Houser officiating. Inurnment will be at Oakland Cemetery, Waukon.
Audrey was born March 3, 1922 and passed away December 9, 2013. Boyd was born January 27, 1921 and passed away July 10, 2015.
They married September 19, 1945. This year would have been their 70th wedding anniversary.
They are survived by their children, David Groezinger and Carol (Bob) Christianson; their grandchildren, Lauryn, Brock, Kelly (Greg) and Heather (Mike); five great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Betty DeBuhr; and their nephews, Jerry (Karen) and Dennis (Linda) DeBuhr.
They were preceded in death by their son, Philip; and Audrey’s brother, Victor DeBuhr.
