Waukon voters to choose between Dwight Jones, Pat Stone in December 5 run-off election for Mayor of Waukon

NICC Waukon Center will be lone polling site

Voters in the city of Waukon should be going to the polls Tuesday, December 5 to help determine the town's mayor for the next two years in a special run-off election scheduled following none of the five candidates for Mayor of Waukon in the November 7 City Election receiving the required 50% + 1 vote majority to win the office. Polls for the run-off election will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. December 5, with just one polling location serving all Waukon voters in this particular election, that polling site being located in Room 109 of the Northeast Iowa Community College (NICC) Waukon Center.

On that run-off election ballot will be just two candidates, Dwight Jones and Pat Stone, who received the two highest vote totals out of the five candidates for the Waukon Mayor office in the November 7 City Election. Since none of those five candidates in that race received the 50% + 1 vote total majority, Waukon City Code mandates that the candidates with the two highest vote totals will then square off in a run-off election. Write-in votes can also be counted in such a run-off election.

Voters can also request an absentee ballot by using the official Absentee Request form available at the Allamakee County Auditor’s Office or online at the Allamakee County website, www.allamakee.us/auditor2, or at the Secretary of State’s website, http://sos.iowa.gov. The last day to request an absentee ballot by mail is this Friday, December 1.

In-person absentee voting is available in the Allamakee County Auditor’s Office in the Allamakee County Courthouse in Waukon through 4 p.m., Monday, December 4. Regular hours for the Auditor's Office are Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
