Veterans Memorial Hospital Monona Clinic introduces new medical provider Krista Begalske, ARNP

Krista Begalske, ARNP

The Veterans Memorial Hospital Monona Clinic opened its doors in mid September with Dr. Andrea Venteicher as the sole medical provider. The Monona Clinic has now announced that Krista Begalske, ARNP, Nurse Practitioner, has joined the practice and has begun seeing patients at the clinic as well.

Krista is originally from the St. Olaf area and attended Central Community High School in Elkader. She went on to study nursing at Allen College in Waterloo. She continued on and achieved her nurse practitioner degree and license and has been working at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo for the last few years. Krista, her husband, Eric, and their young son recently moved back to northeast Iowa so Krista could begin practicing family medicine at the Monona Clinic.

“Caring for patients is even more special when it’s people you’ve known or grown up with,” states Krista. “I was born and raised in northeast Iowa. I can’t wait to start giving back to the communities that helped shape who I am today.”

Krista chose family medicine as her area of focus in her nurse practitioner studies. As a family health care provider, Krista can examine any patient of any age to help diagnose and create a health care plan for individuals in northeast Iowa.

“I chose family medicine because I want to care for people throughout their whole lifespan and to build trusting provider-patient relationships with my patients. Being a family nurse practitioner allows me to provide care through a holistic approach,” she adds. Krista provides family medicine Tuesday through Friday at the Monona Clinic. Appointments can be made to see Krista, but walk-ins are also welcome.

“I became a medical provider because I felt a call to make a difference in the lives of others,” comments Krista. “Before becoming a nurse practitioner, I worked as a critical care nurse. While I enjoyed this, I wanted to advance my education in order to have a greater understanding of the complexities of managing illness in all ages. I am committed to providing the utmost quality of care for each patient, taking into consideration his or her individual physical, social and mental health needs. I am committed to be an advocate and provide the best care possible for every patient.”

Veterans Memorial Hospital Administrator Mike Myers adds, “We are excited to have Krista become part of the VMH team. Her desire to give back to the area in which she was raised fits well with the goal of VMH, to enhance the well being of the area.”

Appointments can be made with Krista or Dr. Venteicher by calling the Monona Clinic at 563-539-5656.  Clinic staff is working to save appointment spots each day for acute patients who quickly need to be seen due to a sudden onset of an illness.
