John White, Jr.

John White, Jr., 81, of Postville died Monday, July 7, 2014 at Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah. Funeral services were held Saturday, July 12 at First Baptist Church in Waukon, with Rev. Duane Smith officiating.  Burial was at Oakland Cemetery, Waukon.
John White, Jr. was born January 13, 1933 in Waukon, the son of John and Clara (Bulman) White. He graduated from Waukon High School.  John also graduated from Baptist Bible College and Seminary in Clark’s Summit, PA, Luther College in Decorah and Dallas Theological Seminary in Dallas, TX.
August 7, 1959, John married Sharon Murdock at Scofield Memorial Church in Dallas. He pastored churches in Robins and Grand Rapids, MI, then served as a missionary consultant with the Association of Baptists for World Evangelism (ABWE) in many countries around the world. He also founded Horizon International Schools, a distance learning university for theological training in foreign countries.
In 1992, John and Sharon returned to the Waukon area. While he kept very busy with his work, in his spare time he also enjoyed fishing, hunting and woodworking.
John is survived by his wife, Sharon of Postville; his children, Deborah (Mike) Sisson and J. Philip (Julie) White, both of the Grand Rapids, MI area; five grandchildren, Joshua, Tyler and Trevor Sisson, and Jack and Halle White; two brothers, Howard (Martha) White of Longmont, CO and Lee (Ruth) White of Postville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Milton (Shirley) White and Linton (Dorthy) White; and his sister, Viola (Harold) Doudney.
Honorary casketbearers were Lee White and Les Livingood. Casketbearers were Joshua, Tyler and Trevor Sisson, Jack White, Paul Roeder and Larry Gelo.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Missions Trip Fund at First Baptist Church of Waukon.
