The Bottom Line

by Iowa State Senator Mike Breitbach

After some communication with the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) I felt it was important I address Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) in my comments this week. There were three positive tests of CWD in a sampling of 309 deer in the Harpers Ferry area this winter. The DNR has decided it wants to take a special scientific collection of targeted samples. The anticipated start date will be February 21 and end March 15. The target sample will be between 150 and 250 deer in an expected coverage area of 30 square miles.
The targeted area will be mapped with specific numbers for each area, and hunters will be required to meet specific DNR guidelines for this sampling. They will receive specific authorization for this collection. If you are interested in participating, please contact Dale Garner of the DNR at 515-725-8494.
Tax preparers will be interested to know Governor Branstad signed the “Coupling Bill” February 17.  This aligns most of our state income tax laws with federal tax laws.
This Saturday, February 21, I will be holding forums in Oelwein and Decorah. Details are noted below.
