Twenty-one girls have joined the Waukon girls golf team for the 2015 season, which is scheduled to kick off Monday, April 6 at the Waukon Golf and Country Club with a dual match against South Winneshiek. Waukon girls golf coach Kathy McMillan said that she is counting on senior leadership and returning letterwinners to lead the squad, including seniors Jenny Bartling and Katelyn Kolsrud, junior Leslie Sivesind and sophomores Bailey Farley and Kayla Palmer.
Other seniors on this year’s team include Samantha Swartz, Hope Manning and Kelsey Cota. Additional juniors include Marisa Mitchell, Jessica Sholes and Alyvia Jones. Other sophomores include Mason Hermeier, Annika Anderson, Hannah Hennessy and Whitney Cota. Freshmen on this year’s squad include Abby Dixon, Payton Rissman, Kylee Hager, Adrianna Rocksvold, Carley Sweeney and Makayla Manning.
Overall, the team is fairly young and inexperienced with six freshmen and two sophomores who are beginning their first season as well, but Coach McMillan is optimistic about the upcoming season. “I’m looking forward to getting these girls out to play in competition. If I had to put 12 players out on Monday for competition, I could do it,” she said. “I feel totally confident with this team. They are swinging good and working hard for me.”
“We have great team chemistry and a lot of positive energy,” McMillan added.
