The Bottom Line

by State Senator Mike Breitbach

A bill I drafted passed the House on Wednesday and will be sent to the Governor for his signature. This bill reduces the number of continuing education hours required every two years of barbers and still protects public safety.
The past week was filled with approving the Governor’s appointments, finalizing passage of bills from the House and floor debate. I feel the session is starting to wind down with the biggest issues of school funding and finalizing the budget still remaining.
We are starting to see an influx of presidential candidates in the state. This week I had the opportunity to meet with Senator Rick Santorum, Governor Rick Perry and Donald Trump. I feel we are very fortunate in Iowa to have this type of access to people seeking the highest office in the land.
Next week the Pioneer Lawmakers Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday evening at the capital.  At this service we recognize lawmakers that have passed in the last year. One of those being recognized this year is Roger A. Halvorson, who served as my representative in the House from 1975 to 1997. He is missed by all of us.
