The Bottom Line

by State Senator Mike Breitbach

The following is by my clerk, Barbara, who has been helping me with my work this legislative session.

It has been my great pleasure to clerk for Senator Breitbach during the 86th General Assembly. My professional background is in business and higher education. I grew up in Wisconsin, graduating from the University of Wisconsin. The political process has always interested me and my father instilled the importance and privilege of voting and being an informed voter, so when my husband and I moved to Iowa I was excited to see what “caucusing” was all about (it’s a process that fascinates those not from Iowa!).
Given my long-held interests, clerking in the Iowa Senate is the perfect job, providing the opportunity to see first-hand how laws are drafted and crafted, the art of compromise, and to work in the beautiful surroundings of our State Capitol. There are disappointments, for instance when a promising bill dies in committee. All of these elements combine to make a very lively and interesting place to work.
If you have not toured our Capitol, please make plans to see this lovely and historical treasure. And let us know when you plan to visit, as Senator Breitbach is always happy to meet and visit with his constituents.
Thank you, Senator Breitbach, for allowing me to introduce myself to your newsletter readers.
