Brennan is double State Meet qualifier in 400 and 800 meter events

Kee boys track sophomore Danny Brennan crosses the finish line ahead of the rest of the field in the 400 meter dash at the Class 1A State Qualifying Meet hosted by Edgewood-Colesburg Thursday, May 14. Brennan’s 400 meter dash win came in 53.54 seconds for automatic State Meet qualification, and he also added a runner-up finish in the 800 meter run in 2:05.99 to qualify in that event as well. He will now compete among Class 1A’s elite in both events at Drake Stadium in Des Moines later this week. Photo courtesy of Kee High School Yearbook. The Kee boys track team was competing for extension of its season at its Class 1A State Qualifying Meet hosted by Edgewood-Colesburg Thursday, May 14. That extension happened for just one of this season’s Hawks, but it happened in two events, as sophomore Danny Brennan ended up as a double State Meet qualifier for the Hawks in the two events that have become his specialties this season, the 400 meter dash and 800 meter run.
Brennan won automatic qualification for this season’s Class 1A field in the 400 meter dash of the Iowa High School State Track Meet, topping Thursday’s State Qualifying Meet field in the event with a clocking of 53.54 seconds. Although Brennan was just over a second off of a second event championship and automatic State Meet berth, the 2:05.99 runner-up finish he clocked in the 800 meter run was good enough to gain Brennan one of the 12 top non-championship berths in the event out of all Class 1A State Qualifying Meets from across the state.
Brennan will now compete among the Class 1A elite in both events at Drake Stadium in Des Moines later this week.
