Waukon softball team comes close to upset of Class 4A ninth-rated W-SR

The Waukon softball team battled through a winless week this past week, but came to the very brink of recording what would have been its biggest win of the season. After having a Monday, June 15 game at Class 3A 14th-rated Crestwood postponed due to stormy weather, the Indians fell at North Fayette Valley by an 8-1 result Tuesday, June 16 before coming up just shy, 5-4, at Class 4A ninth-rated and Northeast Iowa Conference-leading Waverly-Shell Rock Wednesday, June 17.
Holding a 4-9 overall record, 1-5 in the Northeast Iowa Conference, the Indians were once again scheduled for a busy early part of this week, hosting Charles City Monday, June 22 before making up that June 15 postponement at Crestwood Tuesday, June 23 and playing at Decorah Wednesday, June 24. A Thursday, June 25 home doubleheader with Oelwein has been removed from the schedule, but the Tribe will play Saturday, June 27 in the Decorah Tournament. A full week will then wrap up the softball Tribe’s regular season, with three consecutive games with New Hampton that include a June 11 make-up date at home with the Chickasaws Monday, June 29 and a road doubleheader at New Hampton Tuesday, June 30. That week and regular season will then wrap up at home against Kee Wednesday, July 1 and a doubleheader with Class 3A 14th-rated Crestwood Thursday, July 2.
