The Kee softball team wrapped up its regular season with another undefeated week on the diamond, completing its regular season slate with a final 15-game win streak and a 27-10 overall record that included a 17-1 Upper Iowa Conference (UIC) mark good enough edge out North Fayette Valley’s 16-2 UIC record for this season’s Upper Iowa Conference championship. North Fayette Valley is accountable for the Lady Hawks’ only UIC loss on the season.
“This team has many goals for the 2015 season,” Kee softball coach Liz Hill said. “I am proud of each player on the team because they all support each other and want to achieve high goals.”
The softball Hawks had this week’s initial games at home against MFL/MarMac postponed by stormy weather from their original Monday, June 29 date to Wednesday, July 1, eliminating a non-conference date at Waukon from their schedule. Kee handed MFL/MarMac losses of 11-0 in five innings and 6-5 in that July 1 make-up date before also sweeping Clayton Ridge Thursday, July 2 by scores of 13-0 in four innings and 9-1. The wins continued for the Hawks at the two-day Don Bosco Invitational, including victories of 4-1 over Wilton and 10-6 over Jesup Friday, July 3 before finishing off the event with wins of 10-7 over West Branch and 7-2 over Dyersville Beckman Saturday.
“The girls have been working very hard and they put a great week of games in during the last week of the season,” Coach Hill said.
Kee will now begin postseason tournament play Wednesday, July 8 by hosting Central Elkader, with further details of Kee’s postseason journey printed elsewhere on these Sports pages in a shaded box. Central Elkader was a first-round winner over Edgewood-Colesburg, 7-4, Monday, July 6 to earn that match-up with the Hawks.
