Waukon baseball breaks into NEIC win column with three wins in five games

The Waukon baseball team finally broke its season-long winless streak in Northeast Iowa Conference (NEIC) play this week, doing so in considerable fashion with three such wins out of five games played. The Indians first broke into the NEIC win column with a 6-5 win at Oelwein Monday, June 29 in a game shortened to just five innings by stormy weather before splitting a pair of home doubleheaders to finish off the week. The baseball Tribe first loss to Decorah, 6-4, before shutting out the Vikings, 6-0, Tuesday, June 30 and then finished off the week with a Senior Night split with Oelwein that included a 5-2 loss and a 2-0 win featuring a no-hit pitching effort by senior Landon Sivesind and a walk-off homerun by senior Jake Ronan.
Improving to an 11-13 overall record on the season, 3-12 in the Northeast Iowa Conference, the Indians were scheduled to wrap up their regular season this week with a pair of Northeast Iowa Conference road doubleheaders, at New Hampton Tuesday, July 7 and at Crestwood Friday, July 10. The baseball Tribe will then likely begin postseason tournament play Friday, July 17, with that postseason tournament trail yet to be announced as of the Tuesday morning print deadline for this week’s issue of The Standard.
