The Waukon baseball team had its 2015 season brought to a close in a Class 3A first-round district tournament loss at the home of fourth-rated West Delaware Friday, July 17. The host Hawks proved their high regard in limiting the Indians to just a single hit while knocking around 13 of their own on the way to a 14-0 Indian loss in five innings. The loss brings the Tribe’s 2015 season to a close with a 12-17 overall record that includes a mark of 4-14 to place the Indians seventh in the final Northeast Iowa Conference (NEIC) standings. West Delaware went on to defeat Independence - 14-11 first-round winners over Decorah - by a 2-1 final result in the Monday, July 20 district championship game to earn a Wednesday, July 22 Substate 3 championship game match-up with second-rated Waverly-Shell Rock, 4-2 winners over Charles City in Monday, July 20 district championship play. That substate winner will advance on to next week’s Class 3A State Tournament.
