Lansing City Council sets bid letting date for Clear Creek water and sewer project

The Lansing City Council met in regular session Monday night, November 2. After accepting the consent agenda, the Council set December 2 at 3 p.m. for the Clear Creek water/sewer project bid letting date. The bids will be reviewed at the Council meeting Monday, December 7.
The Council reviewed two citizen requests, one for a light pole at 420 Center Street, and the other a  building permit application for a car port at 941 North Front Street. Mayor Brennan and the Council members agreed the Center Street area described is quite dark, but a final decision was postponed until installation costs and related information can be collected. Kevin Ira submitted a building permit application for a carport on the east side of the residence at 941 North Front Street. Councilwoman Becky Conway said there used to be a carport there before and they moved it up behind the house because a neighbor was “not liking it there” and the view was hindered. Mayor Brennan said his personal opinion is that “Of all the special permits that we approved, they’ve either been on the back side of the property or were obvious improvements to the property of significant proportions, but to have a carport... is not the case here... He has enough real estate if he wants to build a garage or move this back and it would comply with the Ordinance.” After further discussion the Council decided to follow the process of sending letters to neighbors to determine if there are objections to Ira’s request.
Jerry Aperans, Street Superintendent, said no decision has yet been made regarding hours for the City burn pile but he is considering having it open at 8 a.m. and then being closed at the same time that the Police Department closes the Mt. Hosmer gate, which is sundown. Mayor Brennan asked Aperans to continue working on the policy for the ordinance. Aperans also said he would be winterizing the Marina this week.
Police Chief Ed Stahl said he is waiting on the invoice for the patrol car being purchased from the Kansas Highway Patrol. When the invoice arrives with the final amount the clerk can send a check and the car can be picked up.  Stahl said the new officer, Luke Inglett, will begin work November 11.
The Marina Board submitted a written report from its October 27 meeting. The report said the rest room doors need to be replaced in the spring and they will need to look into dredging.
