Ruth Rask

Ruth A. Rask, 90, of Waukon died Friday, November 20, 2015 at Wellington Place in Decorah. Funeral services were held Monday, November 23 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Waukon, with Pastor Kim Gates officiating. Burial was at Oakland Cemetery, Waukon.
Ruth Ann Rask was born July 24, 1925 in the French Creek area of rural Lansing. Her parents were Theodore and Mathilda (Hausman) Welper. Ruth was baptized and confirmed at the French Creek Methodist Church. She attended French Creek #1 rural school and graduated from Waukon High School in 1943.
March 25, 1950, she married Samuel Rask at the Methodist Parsonage in New Albin. They farmed together for many years in the French Creek area. Ruth loved working on the farm, especially taking care of the cows.
She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, where she was very active in ladies' groups. Ruth was also a member of Farm Bureau and active in her neighborhood sewing club. She enjoyed being involved with her children’s 4-H activities, working in her vegetable and flower gardens, feeding and watching birds, taking care of her cats and kittens and attending her granddaughter’s horse shows.
Survivors include her children, Sharon (Frank) Hammel of Postville and Gordon (Lila Nobles) Rask of Castalia; her grandchildren, Christie Hammel (Kyle) Larson of Cologne, MN and Denver Rask of Castalia. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Samuel, who died in 1993; and a brother, William Welper.
Casketbearers were Denver Rask, Lawrence Benda, Dean Welper, Randy Pausch, Rick Wild and Hillary Kasten.
