Lansing City Council votes to raise marina rates/storage fees during regular session

by B.J. Tomlinson

The Lansing City Council met in its regular session Monday night, December 21 at 5 p.m. After adopting the Consent Agenda, the Council discussed and approved a recommendation from the Marina Board to raise dock and levee rates by three percent and winter storage rates to $450. Lansing Mayor Mike Brennan said the increase was consistent with increases in past years. In its 2016 budget request, the Marina Board cited dredging ($200,000) and dock repairs  ($5,000) as anticipated major expenses.
The Council reviewed and approved the Request for Proposals (RFP) guidelines for engineering and technical services for the upcoming South Road Bridge project. The RFP will be published in The Standard newspaper and notices mailed to known local contractors December 30. The proposals should be received on or before Friday, January 29, 2016 at 4 p.m. at the City of Lansing offices and will be opened and awarded on or before February 1, 2016.
The review of applicants for City of Lansing Street Superintendent was postponed until the January meeting when a full Council will be in attendance.
Allamakee Snowblazers representative Greg Stirn addressed the Council regarding the trails within the city limits. Beyond a few noise complaints, Stirn said there have been no concerns, though he said because of the lack of snow, the trails were only used three days last year.
In other business, the Council reviewed and approved a jurisdiction agreement with the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) for Iowa Byways Signage Installation and Maintenance. The agreement affirms the responsibilities of the DOT and the City of Lansing related to the replacement and maintenance of Iowa Great River Road signs. The DOT provides the signs;  the City is required to maintain and repair them. They also reviewed and approved a change of wording (from “Subdivision Plat” to Plat of Survey”) within Resolution #865, which was approved at the last meeting, concerning lots owned by KevDeb Rentals in Block 24.
