Letter to the Editor: The Moving Wall - Clayton County

To the Editor:
The Moving Wall is a half-size replica of the Washington D.C. Vietnam Veterans Memorial  and has been touring the country for 30-plus years. When John Dewitt attended the 1982 dedication in Washington D.C., he felt the positive power of “The Wall.” He vowed to share that experience with those who did not have the opportunity to go to Washington.
John, Norris Shears, Gary Haver and other Vietnam Veteran volunteers built The Moving Wall. It went on display for the first time in Tyler, TX in October of 1984. Two structures of The Moving Wall now travel the USA from April through November spending about a week at each site.
The above are the first two paragraphs from the website www.themovingwall.org. Vietnam era veteran Lanny Kuhse and his wife, Wendy, have been successful in obtaining The Moving Wall and it will be set up at the Clayton County Fairgrounds from June 30 to July 5, 2016. Members of the Clayton County  American Legions held an initial meeting of The Moving Wall-Clayton County Sunday, January 10 at the Community Center in Garnavillo to set up the necessary organization as they planned to execute this event.
I invite the folks in Clayton County to view The Moving Wall-Clayton County website or on Facebook  to offer help as planning continues, send donations which will be needed to bring this event to our area, and learn of other ways to assist this effort.
Those of us who are Vietnam Veterans and Vietnam era Veterans are anticipating the opportunity to identify and remember those American Veterans who gave their lives in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam conflict.
