Letter to the Editor: Quick and severe punishment

To the Editor:
I’m sure you have read or seen on TV the number of overdoses on illegal and legal drugs in the state of New Hampshire - 800 dead, that they know of. The people that sell these drugs make big money, they are ruthless people, ruining the lives of many young, innocent people.
One they are hooked, they will do anything to get money to buy more drugs. It’s the cause of a big crime wave all across the USA. It keeps our law offices overloaded with illegal drug cases. Swift and severe punishment should be dealt out to the dealers.
My dad and his dad, my grandfather, went to Montana to homestead land. Horse thieving got so bad that the farmers banded together and put out the word that horse thieves would be hanged on the spot. Dad said he saw a horse thief hung, the man struggling between two big strong farmers said he bought the horse. A rope was thrown over a tree branch, and the rest is history. Horse thieving stopped completely, no one would buy their stolen horses.
Maybe quick and severe punishment to drug pushers or dealers would make them think twice before they would entice young, innocent people to get hooked. Drug problems are not only in New Hampshire, but all across the USA.
Wouldn’t it be great if the local people said enough is enough - if you sell illegal drugs in our community you will be hunted down and be punished quickly and severely. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could quit worrying about young school-age pupils being safe?
I compare people getting hooked on drugs to people becoming dependent on government promoted by the liberals. How heartless.

Kindest regards
