The 2016 track and field season officially came to an end for the Kee girls track team, with two of its members competing one final time in their specialty events among the elite in Class 1A of the Iowa High School State Track Meet held Thursday through Saturday, May 19-21 at Drake Stadium in Des Moines. That Kee pair included freshman Katie

Brennan and sophomore Kendra Cooper, who finished on opposite spectrum ends among their respective event elite.

Brennan was the first to compete for the Lady Hawks, lining up among Class 1A’s top 24 distance runners in the 3000 meter run Thursday afternoon, May 19. In her first-ever Iowa High School State Track Meet, Brennan found herself toward the end of that 24-runner pack initially, but willed her way back over the last severals laps of the event to end up fourth in a time of 11:27.40. The Class 1A 3000 meter run was won by East Mills freshman Janette Schraft in 10:48.20.

Cooper was also making her Iowa High School State Track Meet debut at this season’s grand finale, competing in the Class 1A discus Friday afternoon, May 20. After throwing out of bounds on her first attempt, the Kee sophomore posted throws of 72’11” and 83’4” to miss out on making the eight-thrower finals in the event and end up 23rd among the 23 Class 1A competitors in the event. Fellow Upper Iowa Conference thrower Delaney Lensing was also slated to compete in that season grand finale event, but scratched out of it prior to the start of competition. Wapsie Valley sophomore Mackenzie Goeller won the Class 1A discus with a toss of 134’10”.
