VMH’s 5K Cardiac Classic free Fun Run/Walk and wellness tests during Waukon Corn Days

Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon will be sponsoring its 23rd annual 5K Cardiac Classic Run/Walk Saturday, August 20, in conjunction with the Waukon Corn Days celebration. The run/walk will be offered as a free event this year and welcomes walkers and runners of all ages. In addition, a number of free wellness tests and services will be offered to all those attending.

Free diabetes/blood sugar tests will be offered by the hospital’s Diabetes Education Department as well as free hemoglobin tests by the hospital’s Laboratory Department. Free chair massages will also be offered by the hospital’s massage therapists, Edna Wyninger and Shannen Mezera.

The Fun Run/Walk will begin and end at the southeast entrance of Veterans Memorial Hospital at 8 a.m. with registration beginning at 7 a.m. This year’s event is going to be a free wellness event for all ages. Anyone in the area communities is welcome to attend and enjoy a walk or run around the scenic city of Waukon. The distance of the event is 5K, or 3.1 miles.

There is no pre-registration. All those interested in participating in the event are asked to arrive between 7-7:45 a.m. to register. Because this is a free event, there will not be any awards given for the 5K run; however, a large race clock will be on display so all those attending can keep track of their own race time. All participants will receive reflective safety wristbands for wearing when exercising outdoors with limited sunlight.  Light refreshments will also be served following the Fun Run/Walks.

The event will be completed in plenty of time for participants to enjoy the Corn Days breakfast being served downtown that morning. Those with further questions concerning the event may call Erin Berns, Public Relations Director, at Veterans Memorial Hospital at 563-568-3411.
