Waukon Corn Days has wide variety of events planned for annual celebration scheduled for August 19-21

Waukon’s annual Corn Days celebration is scheduled for Friday-Sunday, August 19-21 and features three days’ worth of family-oriented activities held all throughout the Waukon community. Several changes have been made to this year's event in an effort to enhance everyone's experience.

FRIDAY, AUGUST 19
The Waukon Chamber of Commerce will kick off the festivities with a meal of sweet corn and pork loin sandwiches in the Waukon State Bank parking lot Friday night from 4-8 p.m. The Allamakee County Dairy Wagon will be on site selling ice cream.
Children and families are invited to meet The Paw Patrol Pups Chase, Marshall and Skye in their mascot-type costumes from 4-6 p.m. Friday in downtown Waukon, and again at the Waukon City Park from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, August 20. Each child will receive an autographed 4x6 print of the pups in addition to taking their own pictures with them. This meet and greet will cost $5 per child and $10 for a family of three or more.
Epic Wear is hosting a Waukon Celebrity Dunk Tank to raise donations for next year’s Corn Days event. The Waukon Celebrity Dunk Tank will be located downtown Waukon from 4-8 p.m. This is a great opportunity to have some fun, dunk local officials and raise money for the event. Celebrity dunkees will be announced at a later date.
There will be summer activities for children downtown Friday from 4-8 p.m., and again Saturday, August 20 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Waukon City Park. Children will be able to enjoy numerous carnival-type activities that will include balloon art, face painting, caricature drawings, high striker and much more. Brain Freeze will also be on site selling snow cones.
Veterans Memorial Hospital will be offering free Blood Pressure Checks by the hospital’s Community and Home Care Department in the Veterans Memorial Hospital first aid tent located in the Waukon State Bank parking lot from 4:30-7:30 p.m. Hand washing demonstrations will also be offered at the hospital booth and a first aid station will be available, if needed.
The Waukon Corn Days celebration will crown one third-fifth grader, one sixth-eighth grader and one ninth-12th grader with the honor of Little Miss Corn Days, Jr. Miss Corn Days and Miss Corn Days, respectively. The coronation of royalty will take place in the Waukon State Bank parking lot at 5 p.m. Friday. Miss Corn Days, Jr. Miss Corn Days and Little Miss Corn Days will make an appearance at the Sweet Corn Meal before joining the parade. Good Fellas Riding Club is hosting Toilet Bowl Races. Teams of two will race through an obstacle course while riding on a Toilet Bowl in a timed event. The winning team must finish the race with the toilet and pilot (the member of the team seated on the toilet) still remaining on the racer platform. The race will take place at 6 p.m. in downtown Waukon Friday. Anyone 12 years or older is welcome to participate. Spectators are encouraged and welcome.
There will be a Corn Days Parade through Waukon at 7 p.m. Friday. The parade route has changed this year. Beginning from the Allamakee County Fairgrounds, the parade will head south down Allamakee Street through the stoplight intersection and on to Kwik Star, where it will turn right onto First Avenue SW. The parade will then venture up to Second Street SW, where the entries will turn right and travel Second Street NW before turning right on Eighth Avenue NW to head back to the fairgrounds.
This year the Waukon Chamber of Commerce will be awarding the best corn-themed float $100 in Waukon Bucks. Those wishing to enter the parade are asked to be lined up by 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Allamakee County Fairgrounds. Pre-registration is appreciated.
JaDecc’S invites all who dare to compete for the title of “Corn Eating Champion” at the classic Corn Eating Contest. Kicking off at 7:30 p.m., Corn Eating Challengers will devour ears of corn to see how many ears can be eaten in five minutes. This year’s competition will take place at the Waukon State Bank parking lot following the parade.
Good Fellas will also be holding a Street Dance featuring Swing Crew, beginning at 8 p.m. The Waukon Park, Recreation and Wellness Department will be hosting a Teen Night Movie at the Pool from 8:30-11 p.m. Friday at the Waukon Family Aquatic Center.

SATURDAY, AUGUST 20
Veterans Memorial Hospital will host its annual 5K Cardiac Classic Run/Walk Saturday, August 20. This year's will be free for anyone wanting to participate. Registration begins at 7 a.m. with the run/walk beginning at 8 a.m.
Waukon Farmers Market will open its market Saturday from 9-10 a.m. at the Waukon City Park. The market will feature vendors with local, Iowa-grown produce, food products and more.
WW Homestead Dairy, Dietrich’s Custom Upholstery & Auto Body and Bodensteiner Body Werks will host a Classic Car Show at WW Homestead Dairy from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. and judging will take place at 1 p.m. There will be 25 classes, with trophies awarded to the winners, and the first 100 vehicles entered will receive a dash plaque.
The Waukon Park, Recreation and Wellness Department Frisbee Golf Tournament will be held Saturday in the Waukon City Park. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. at the Waukon Aquatic Center and the tournament will begin at 10 a.m. Participants will need to bring their own frisbees. Spectators are encouraged and welcome.
The Waukon Police Department and Veterans Memorial Hospital Ambulance will be providing children a close-up look at a police car, ambulance and the equipment they carry inside.  Safety vehicles will be on display at the Waukon City Park from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
A Power Wheels Derby will allow kids to compete like the big people do. Registration begins at 10 a.m. and the derby begins at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Waukon City Park. Trophies will be awarded. Visit the Northeast Iowa Animal Club Petting Farm at the Waukon City Park from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday. Kids can also jump into a pool full of corn kernels for a Penny Hunt in the Waukon City Park starting at 10 a.m.
Ross Geerdes, Naturalist with Allamakee County Conservation, will be teaching interested participants proper equipment use, paddling technique and basic navigation for canoeing and kayaking at the Indian Springs Pone in the Waukon City Park from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Both kids and adults are invited to attend an educational corn presentation by Innovative Ag Services at the Waukon City Park at both 11 a.m. and again at 12 noon. Attendees can learn how corn grows and the different stages it goes through.
The Waukon Fire Department will be providing children a close-up look of fire truck and the equipment they carry inside. The fire truck will be giving rides at the Waukon City Park from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
The Waukon Youth Wrestling program will be serving lunch at the Waukon City Park from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Kerndt Brothers Bank is also sponsoring a Pedal Tractor Pull/Race for kids at the Waukon City Park, with prizes will be awarded to the top pullers. The pull will be located in the Waukon City Park with an 11 a.m. sign-up and the pull to start at 11:30 a.m.
The World National Wristwrestling Association will be hosting a tournament at the Waukon City Park Saturday. Weigh-Ins start at 12:30 p.m. with matches to follow. Trophies will be awarded to the winners.
Candy Corn Bingo games will be sponsored by the NICC Waukon Center. Bingo will be held from 1-2 p.m.
The Waukon Aquatic Center will be hosting Family Floaty Day Saturday. Flotation devices (with some exception) are allowed in the pool on Floaty Day from 1-7 p.m.
Green Valley Getaway will be hosting a Corn Hole Tournament Saturday, with registration beginning at 1:30 p.m. and double-elimination tournament play to begin at 2 p.m. Teams register as groups of two, with up to two additional alternates who can play in the absence of regular team members.

SUNDAY, AUGUST 21
Allamakee Flyers Inc. and Waukon Knights of Columbus will be hosting a Fly-in-Breakfast at the Waukon Airport from 7-11 a.m. Allamakee Flyers Inc. will be giving 20-minute airplane rides for a fee.
