Iowa State University Extension and Outreach partnered with the 21st Century Community Connections Learning Center (CCLC) Kids Club program at West Elementary School in Waukon to offer a STEM-themed after school program. Thirteen first and second grade students met once a week for six weeks to participate in hands-on learning. The youth were color scientists and experimented with mixing and naming their own colors. They made homemade bubbles and bubble blowers and discovered which solution made bigger bubbles and flew the highest. The students also made boats out of aluminum foil and color changing slime. Lastly, they were able to showcase these activities to their parents and other students during the Lights On Afterschool showcase.
