Glenn Thorsen

Glenn O. Thorsen, 90, of Waterville died Monday, February 6, 2017 at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services were held Friday, February 10 at Old East Paint Creek Lutheran Church in rural Waterville with Pastor Ken Kimball officiating. Burial with military honors was at Waterville Lutheran Cemetery, Waterville.

Glenn Oliver Thorsen was born August 24, 1926 in Chicago, IL, the son of Emil M. and Agnes (Larson) Thorsen. He was baptized at Old East Paint Creek Lutheran Church in rural Waterville and confirmed at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in St. Paul, MN.

Glenn graduated from Waterville High School in 1944 and attended Midland College in Fremont, NE for three years. He worked for Mike Larkin Harvesting Company located out of Waterville, combining wheat from Oklahoma to North Dakota. Glenn served in the United States Army from 1945 to 1946. He lived in Sioux City, Denver, CO and St. Paul, MN before moving back to the Waterville area to farm with his brother, Norman, in Paint Creek Township.

Glenn was a member of Waterville Lutheran Church until it closed and then became a member of Old East Paint Creek Lutheran Church. He was also a member of Harpers Ferry American Legion. Glenn enjoyed working on cars and farm machinery, deer hunting, NASCAR racing, and taking care of his cats.

Survivors include three brothers: Norman Thorsen of Waterville, Theodore (Cassie) Thorsen of Roselle, IL and Wilbur (Sandie) Thorsen of Grandblanc, MI; a brother-in-law, Howard (Sally) Olson of Kennesaw, GA; four nieces; and two nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Arlene Olson.

Honorary casketbearers were Orville Bratrud, Carlton Christianson and Bill Collins. Casketbearers were Ian and Kent McCormick, Mark VanderKolk, Sean Bresnahan, Rob Grangaard and David Olson.
